Enjoy a city escape in an opulent property with a literary history
The former home of one of Jane Austen’s brothers, Henry’s Townhouse is a truly special place to stay in the heart of London. Located in Marylebone, it offers easy access to the capital’s highlights, making it ideal for exclusive city weekends, corporate groups, or extended stays.
The four-storey townhouse welcomes guests via a stunning hallway with marble floors, high ceilings, and ornate furnishings. Throughout, guests can enjoy original artworks and antiques, perfectly blended with all the mod-cons expected in a luxury abode of today.
There is also a sunny terrace, perfect for enjoying a morning coffee or evening tipple whilst taking in the bustling surroundings.
Jane’s Sitting Room is the central living area – a sophisticated yet cosy space to relax, which tastefully pays homage to its namesake. A range of seating in plush velvets and vibrant colours create an inviting atmosphere, whilst the grand crystal chandelier adds a touch of opulence. Guests can enjoy a film on the flatscreen TV (discretely hidden behind wooden panels when not in use) or perhaps pen the next bestseller at the bureau overlooked by a portrait of the great writer herself…
On the first floor landing is a small snug, modelled on an upscale railway carriage. This cosy hideaway is the perfect place to enjoy a good book, or perhaps an evening aperitif from the British bar, which features a range of local artisan spirits.
Lavish feasts or relaxed breakfasts can be enjoyed in M. Halavant’s Pantry, the traditional Georgian-style kitchen that features an Aga surrounded by London stone, along with bespoke cabinetry, and beautiful antique tiles. The large refectory table in the centre of the room seats up to 14 and is perfect for enjoying convivial meals. The chefs focus on quality and sustainability, ensuring all food served uses the best of local produce and supplies.
The Pantry also doubles as a meeting room for corporate groups, as the kitchen areas can be discretely closed off and a state-of-the-art AV system brought in.
The six comfortable bedrooms all encapsulate the Georgian era perfectly with their rich fabrics and colour schemes blended with beautiful antiques. There are three double bedrooms, and three bedrooms that can be set up as either twins or doubles, offering flexibility for larger groups. All bedrooms have their own unique theme, many featuring private lounge areas, and all boast beautiful en-suite bathrooms, most with luxurious bathtubs.
Whether it’s a city escape or a corporate retreat that guests are looking for, Henry’s Townhouse offers a refined experience, perfectly combining historic features with modern amenities.
