Villa Cetinale is a 17th-century villa in the Ancaiano district near Siena, Italy. Designed by the architect Carlo Fontana in the Roman baroque style, the villa was built in 1680 by Cardinal Flavio Chigi for Pope Alexander VII – Fabio Chigi. The property is located five kilometres from the town of Sovicille.
The villa’s extensive gardens are renowned for their beauty – reputed to be amongst the most beautiful in Italy. Guests can take a dip in the large swimming pool, relax in the outdoor living areas, or enjoy an al fresco feast at the outdoor dining tables.
Indoors, guests are welcomed via an impressive entrance hall with high ceilings and traditional artworks decorating the walls. There are various lounge areas with fireplaces for relaxing, a loggia with marble dining tables, along with a separate dining room with spectacular high ceilings and wall frescoes.
Guests of all ages will be kept entertained with a games room featuring a pool table, table football, a PlayStation and more. There’s also a cosy TV room, ideal for enjoying a night in with a film.
There are also two well-equipped kitchens perfect for cooking up a feast, or enjoying a casual breakfast.
Guests are accommodated in 13 bedrooms throughout the property. There are seven double bedrooms, three twin rooms, and one single room, many of which have en-suite or private facilities.

It is within easy reach of the historic towns and cities of San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and Siena, to name but a few. Moreover, Florence is just an hour’s drive away, perfect for a day trip.
Visitors can enjoy local excursions to places such as the little-known but beautiful Romanesque cloister at Torri, the working monastery at Monte Oliveto, or the ruined Cistercian abbey at San Galgano. The unpolluted river Merse in the hills above Brenna has many beautiful swimming spots, whilst the coast is udner two hours away, offering access to several pretty islands including Elba, Giglio and Giannutri.
