The Amalfi Coast is a dramatic 50-kilometre coastline on the Sorrentine Peninsula of Southern Italy, between Positano and Vietri sul Mare. Nestling atop the cliffs are gravity-defying villages and towns with iconic views of the Mediterranean Sea. The rugged coast, crystal-clear waters, and charming hilltop towns make it a must-see for any traveller.
Due to its unique natural landscape and undisputed beauty, the region is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit breathtaking Positano and Ravello, beautiful Amalfi, pretty Sorrento and the enchanting islands of Capri and Ischia.
Positano is one of the most picturesque towns in the area, with brightly-coloured buildings cascading in tiers down the cliff face to the sea. Its narrow streets – best explored on foot – are lined with chic restaurants, local cafes, and artisanal boutiques.
Another must-see town is Amalfi itself, known for its attractive cathedral and picturesque harbour. The town is also home to many restaurants and cafes where visitors can enjoy local cuisine whilst taking in breathtaking views.
Hailed as “The City of Music”, Ravello is known for its vibrant cultural scene. The clifftop town is steeped in history, with medieval streets, charming garden villas, and grapevines boasting ancient lineages dating back to Roman times.
Although not technically part of the Amalfi Coast, nearby Sorrento is an excellent base for exploring the area. The coastal town is renowned for its picturesque streets, historic Old Town, and breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples.
The nearby islands of Capri and Ischia are also well worth a visit.
The region is perfect for adventure seekers, with plenty of opportunities for hiking and exploring the spectacular natural scenery. Visitors can take a boat tour of the coast or hike along the famous Path of the Gods, a stunning trail offering breathtaking coastal views.
Visitors can also sample the local delicacies – freshly caught seafood, gourmet mozzarella, hand-made Gnocchi alla Sorrentina, aubergine parmigiana – and sip on local tipples – limoncello or Furore and Tramonti wines.
