The perfect place to experience all the thrills of a Safari holiday in a luxurious setting

Melton Manor is an exclusive-use safari villa, which is part of the Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. This location offers a sophisticated safari experience to the discerning traveller with understated luxury and one of the highest land-to-guest ratios in South Africa.

Extending over 22,000 hectares of untouched wilderness, the reserve is home to the famous Big 5, and a remarkable variety of predators. Kwandwe flanks both the north and south banks of the Great Fish River and it privately owns 30 km of river frontage.

Surrounded by the breathtaking vistas of the Afromontane forests, Melton Manor is built in a U-shape. The four en-suite bedrooms are strategically clustered around the central courtyard with its large beautiful swimming pool. This safari villa was designed to offer guests a unique experience where they can get in touch with nature whilst being pampered with all the finest luxuries.

Melton Manor is a contemporary farmhouse that incorporates modern touches. Distinctively South African, this luxury villa features simple colonial furniture pieces combined with large comfortable sofas. The interior has a unique charm created by a blend of textured fabrics and different materials.

Guests can enjoy various communal living areas and are able to gather in the dining room with its farm-style kitchen or at the big farmhouse table on the terrace. As part of this special safari experience, guests can also choose to sample delicious meals at the picnic site at the mid-game drive.

This holiday home provides different private spaces and living areas for guests to relax and unwind when not out exploring the wilderness. The bedrooms are a great place to retreat and relax on the large verandas, the comfortable beds, and the large bathtubs that offer expansive views of the bushvelds.

This property is ideal for families and small groups of friends traveling together, representing the perfect add-on to an itinerary including Cape Town and the famous Garden Route. At Kwandwe, the days are designed to thrill with intimate wildlife encounters and pamper with warm South African hospitality. The smallest detail of every stay is taken care of by a team of private chefs, a butler, a ranger, and a tracker.

Location

Melton Manor is located within Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. The reserve is a famous conservation and community success story, which offers the ultimate safari experience to any conscientious traveller. The reserve includes four award-winning lodges scattered around 22,000 hectares (54,000 acres) of pristine wilderness.

The term Kwandwe means the place of the blue crane in isiXhosa. This is South Africa’s national bird. The reserve acts as a sanctuary for a population of these rare and highly endangered birds, as well as other species like the Knysna woodpecker, Cape grysbok, black wildebeest, crowned eagle, and black-footed cat.

The reserve has experienced several conservation victories, including the reintroduction of several species eradicated from the area (serval, African wildcat, and small spotted cat) and 7,000 other wild animals including elephants, both species of rhino, hippos, lions, leopards, and brown hyenas.

A day at Kwandwe is filled with adventure, from early morning until dusk, set against a backdrop of star-filled nights. You can opt for a morning game drive setting out in an open 4x4 safari vehicle accompanied by a ranger and tracker team. You will then return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious breakfast followed by the indulgent treat of having an in-room massage. If you wish to continue with the activities, you can go on a short walk near the lodge with your ranger, who can show insight into the smaller animals and vegetation in the area. A big highlight of the day might be a late-afternoon game drive. You can stay until after dark to gain a glimpse of nocturnal bush life. Spot the rarely seen porcupine, aardwolf, or aardvark. For those seeking something more active, you can also choose to track the big game on foot. At the end of the day, you can return to your luxury villa for a mouth-watering dinner around a blazing fire in a boma, or in your private dining area at the lodge.
