Steeped in history, Masseria dei Gesuiti is a beautiful villa offering a luxury countryside escape in the heart of Apulia’s Salento region.
The stone walkways that lead to the villa still bear the marks of the horses and carts that once carried goods and people to its doors. In every direction, the view is of seemingly endless Apulian countryside and olive trees, the fruit of which would have made its way to the villa’s own underground olive mills once, where now guests will find the ultimate spa experience in these cool, peaceful stone caverns.
The grounds offer plenty more historic features to discover, from the 17th-century colonnade, built by the Jesuit monks who once resided here, to the 16th-century chapel.
The villa perfectly blends these historic elements with luxurious modern features, such as the heated outdoor pool, perfect for a relaxing dip before enjoying the sunshine from under the expansive poolside pergola.
Inside, the history of the Masseria has been respected and well preserved. Stone archways, an enormous original fireplace, and beautiful exposed brick and stonework will remind guests of the rich history held within its walls.
Guests can gather for breakfast or coffee around the table in the sleek modern kitchen or come together in the large open living and dining space, perfect for feasts under the vaulted ceiling. Then, they can retire to the games room for a round of pool, the cinema room for a cosy film evening, or perhaps a trip down to the wine cellar to select another bottle to enjoy around the outdoor fireplace.
Inside, 10 king-size bedrooms (two of which can be converted into twin rooms), all with en-suitte facilities are spread across three separate buildings. Each room offers every modern luxury, from sumptuous bedding to rainfall showers, and most boast their own kitchenettes for added convenience.

About the area
Masseria dei Gesuiti is located just 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Lecce in Salento, Apulia. The Adriatic coastline can also be reached in the same amount of time for a day by the sea. Nearby villages Masseria Torzelle and Acaya offer local shops, restaurants and plenty of history to explore. The Acaya golf club is also a short drive away for those keen for a round or two during their stay.
The town of Lecce, nicknamed ‘The Florence of the South’, is certainly worth a visit with its protective walls, well over 100 churches, and stunning basilica, iconic as the centrepiece to the famous Baroque architecture used throughout the town. ‘Lecce stone,’ used in the villa’s construction, gives the historic centre of town a beautiful honey hue, and present-day stonemasons can still be found, creating works of art from this famous material.
In the surrounding Salento countryside, guests will find walking and hiking trails, wine-tasting experiences, and stunning beaches on both the west and east sides of the ‘heel’ of Italy.
